Koda Update "Final"

I couldn't get my scanner to work properly so I just shot everything with my camera and photoshop. I made it into 3 separate parts. Dance itself is on its own file. And the BG is separated into the kid form and maid/butler. I couldnt figure out how to make it pan like i wanted to so i just made 2 separate files with extra time for post editing for somehow who can figure out how to pan it. If not could just be a quick cut.

notes on the backstory: he is at his desk in his room with a music box that has a kicking mechanical toy inside (it's supposed to mimic tap dancing)...i wasn't sure if i should include a close up of the toy in the beginning...

XD lots to do, and i'll do it!

B-Boy Update (November 18)

This is a rough pass of the backstory. Still needs to be fully composited with the foreground objects and some cleanup. In the background are various flyers emphasizing the age limit that discourages the boy from showing off his talent. He then discovers another flyer while skipping down the street that allows him to perform

a little progess. started to add wheels, face, arms, and hair...tried to take out sharp movements. i'm trying to work in a rolling feel. i'll put it with all the other movements soon.

Hula Bunny Animatic v4

So I added my backstory to the animatic with key poses, and a first pass of the close up. No sound for the backstory yet, gotta go to our sound database. I want her to hear applause during the close up so that it suggests she’s daydreaming of being on the stage. I wish I wasn’t incapacitated all weekend so I could’ve done more. And I missed all the fun Halloween festivities to boot. >.<  At least it’s one of my jobs to dress up in costume and be weird pretty often so it’s okay.

New Backstory Boards

BackStory-HulaLamp-WEB

So I think I finally figured out how exactly my Bunny gets to the show. I think this composition works. I was working that out still on Thursday. Here’s my shot list:

Shot 1: Mid-Est shot: Bunny hops up onto table, there is a magazine and a hula lamp on the table. She reads the magazine.
Shot 2: Close up on the DANCERS WANTED ad for the “Amateur Dance Night”
Shot 3: Close up of Bunny’s face, with stars in her eyes.
Shot 4: Same as shot one, Bunny reaches over and turns off the lamp
BLACK OUT: we hear paper ripping and rustling of a grass skirt.
Shot 5: Same as shot four, except the Bunny is gone, the Hula Lamp girl is naked (Barbie style) and the ad is ripped out of the magazine.

can u feel me?

here's my udpate. i added a bit of animation plus some key frames. i was gonna finish the key frames, but i changed my mind, so i'm gonna rethink one of the choreography to make it more dynamic. anyways, here it is:

small bird test XD i'm still really reworking the tap dance. for the dance i ended up choosing twos instead of ones and i'm going for a motion feeling instead of exact steps.

B-Boy v3

Just added more in-betweens to give that fluid movement. Just a little more than halfway there with the dance sequence. The one thing that bothers me is how it goes by a little too fast for the audience to comprehend the footwork. You can see it in slow motion though.

Still have to do the same things I listed last week. I added an ear toss at the beginning as an opener.

added more squash and stretch in beginning tap dance, fixed pointed legs and changed the timing a bit. need to position the arms better and get more of the feeling of being on wheels >.<>

Here’s some snapshots of my thumbnails for this week:

2010-10-21 tailtwirl

I have to work on the follwoing on my next pass:

1. Make opening pose better, moving hold
2. Fix the odd hip pops in the beginning hula
3. Follow through on the ears
4. Fix the hip swings
5. FIx the tail swirls and one leg hop

I’d also like to get the hula into a cycle so I have to add some drawings in for that.

Ryan's Stuff

Not really sure how to use this blog thing that well so I'll just hope everything is suppose to be posted here.

Still need to upload the current dance portion but the net here sucks so later.

Character Designs for the butler and maid, and for the main character young and old.

First rough pass with timing

Currently, I'm working on the transitional poses to connect each sequence fluidly. In the video below, I have the first set of top rocks followed by the airflares, to a little ground footwork, to the final headspin. I'm still working on fixing the position of the character in the first section of the clip. I also did a couple more in-betweens on the first section.

Okay so few things i didn’t get to do:

Hip pops in the beginning 10 seconds that are weird
Add follow through on the ears
Finish rough of the ENTIRE dance. >.<

To much other poo going on.

update

smaller file sizes since the other one seemed too big.

Bunny Hula Progress

Here’s where I’m at with the bunny, had to stop at her turnaround. Other stupid non-animation homework assignments. >.<  Bah.

Back to square one...

After some great advice from Mike, I've decided to redraw all my frames. Now the character can be more animated with much better movements thanks to the movement and follow through of the clothes. I am also able to play around with some squash and stretches. I'm still working on the extremes and more frames to hold some of the anticipation in the animation.

Anyway, this is just an updated version of the first dance sequence. I've decided to have a cut where the judges react to the kid dancing (Don't mind the silhouette pic. It's just a filler). Then it cuts back to the kid doing even crazier moves. I feel the flow would be better this way rather than a continuous shot. What do you guys think?

My updated storyboard and keys

Hula Bunny Animatic 03

Pirate Judge

LOL Hapi I saw your Samurai Judge, love it! Here’s a Pirate Judge. He has a triangle hat hehe. I’m thinking of the fun we could have with the reaction mumbling… tee hee.

Hula Bun – Revised Back-story

So I felt like my back-story didn’t really fit in very well to the motif we have going on. Plus I was watching my bunny sit in his cage and thought of this, it’s really cute so I think I’ll go with this instead. Make her bunny-sized as well, so when she hops on stage she’s super tiny :)

Thurs. 9/16 meeting notes

Okay so we decided to have everyone pick a shape and come up with a character design for our 3 Judges. That way we’ll have some selection to choose from:

Kala – Diamond
Ryan – Square or Circle
Michelle & Nak – Triangle
Hapi – Square
Lauren – Oval

Justin, since you were home by the time you got the message we were meeting just pick any old shape. Please post under Character Design category on this blog before we meet on Thursday.

Hare the rest of my drawings and notes from our meeting (sorry the drawings are totally crap but at least they have the ideas down!):

Stage

Oh right, I’m going to make a mock up background in Photoshop of the precession to see if we like that look for the background. Then everyone can pick it apart and we can re-arrange it as a group.

Theatre-Ext-shots

The start of the auditions will be an exterior of the theatre, with “AUDITIONS TODAY” or something like that in big letters blinking or scrolling. Then a shot of the precession (stage), then a silhouetted shot of empty seats. The 3 judges will walk in and sit down.

judges

So when we talked about our transitions between dances, in the interest of time we decided on having one animation of the stage’s curtain’s opening and closing to indicate a transition between dances, and the last time all the characters will be lined up together for their bow.

bow-arrangement

We’ll need to gather all of our character model sheets together, and play around with scale in photoshop to see what order we like them in. So please post your character model sheet onto the blog under the category character designs.

The end will be the bow, and the judges giving them a standing ovation. At least that’s what we last decided on. All this of course may be subject to change because it’s not unlikely that we will think of something else at this point! ;)

Little breaker dance sequence v1.0

As of right now, I did most of the key poses and a little inbetweens. I still have to fix the proportions of the first part of this sequence. My intentions were to include a variety of space, which is why the character is small in the background and larger when he's more in the foreground.

So in my sequence, the little kid will move a huge boombox to the right of the stage. Then he starts doing his dances: toprocks, followed by airflares until he's out of the picture. He then slides back in the picture with a helmet, which he uses in the final scene doing a headspin.

Any suggestions on a way to tweak the animation? Feedbacks are greatly appreciated! Keep up the good work guys!
